Maintenance
CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR HANDKNITTED WOODNOTES CARPET GENERAL CARE Vacuuming once a week (or more often if necessary) is the most effective way to remove dirt and dust. Do not use a beater bar or rotating brush. Regular vacuuming prevents the carpet from absorbing dirt. A new rug will produce fluff, but this is temporary. REMOVAL OF STAINS It is important to remove stains and spots immediately. Any liquids spilled onto the carpet should be removed with a piece of paper towel or absorbent and colourfast cotton towel (white is recommended). You can also pour a little baking soda on the spot to try to soak up the moisture on the carpet. Wait about 20 seconds, and then vacuum. Repeat the process until the baking soda stops absorbing liquid. If you missed out on cleaning the spill quickly, blot the stains with clean, cold water. Minimize water. You can also try mixing vinegar and water. A drop of wool cleaning liquid can also be used. The affected area should be treated by tapping it gently with a damp sponge or towel. Start from the edges of the stained area and work towards the centre. Do not rub. Do not over-wet the carpet. Rinse out using a clean steam sponge or towel. Lightly dry. Remove any dried stains carefully with a knife or spoon. WASHING Our wool carpets can be cleaned in snow. Cleaning with snow is a traditional way of washing and freshening wool carpets. You need a cold day, when snow on the ground is dry and powdery. Take the carpet outside beforehand and ensure it doesn't melt the snow once on the ground. Lay the carpet on the ground piles against the snow. You can leave the carpet for a while. Brush out all the snow with a soft brush. Snow gently removes lint and dust away. Let the carpet dry properly. When the carpet needs to be washed, use reputable carpet cleaners. Do not wash wool carpet often. Do not soak. Do not bleach. Do not wash and/or dry in a cylinder machine. Do not dry clean. STORAGE When storing the Handknotted wool carpet, roll it tightly around a cardboard tube with the pile inside. Make sure that the bottom of the carpet will not wrinkle. Store horizontally. Do not store anything heavy on top.
