Designer: Mathieu Matégot in 1953 Concept: This beautiful fruit bowl from GUBI is characterized by being made of the solid but light material Rigitulle, which is made from a thin perforated metal plate that has since become the designer's trademark. The decorative bowl is at once an extremely elegant way to store the fresh fruit, while at the same time being a piece of beautiful design that adorns the coffee table, dining table or kitchen table. The fruit bowl is part of the popular Matégot series which also consists of a coat rack, a flower pot and a trolley of the same style. Mathieu Matégot (1910 - 2001) was an independent and self-taught Hungarian designer, architect and artist. He lived most of his life in his beloved Paris where he settled in 1931, after graduating from the Hungarian University of Art and Design in Budapest. In 1939, Matégot volunteered for the Finnish army, but was captured in Germany until he fled in 1944. The war period played a career-important role for Martégot, as he became acquainted with the innovative material and technique Rigitulle, which today characterizes his style.
