Design: Verner Panton, 1999

Concept: In 1999, Vitra Panton produced the chair in the original design, but in a mat finish, rather than the classic glossy finish, and in 2021, the proportions of the chair were updated to be more up-to-date with modern life. The easily flexible polypropylene provides the enormous comfort in interaction with the ergonomic seat. The Panton chair is based on the original chair designed by Verner Panton in 1960, which is today known as the Panton Classic. The Classic model is one of the most well-known chair classics in modern furniture design. The chair was the first plastic chair produced from a single piece of plastic. The Panton chair is suitable for outdoor use, but be aware that the UV radiation will cause the color to change over time. Therefore, we recommend that it be used limited in direct sunlight.

The Danish designer Verner Panton (1926-1998), was a leading and significant part of Danish furniture design's absolute heyday. Panton had close relationships with both Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner and Poul Henningsen, whose expression and idiom, as is well known, are known and loved by people all over the world. Despite Verner Panton being part of Danish furniture design's important mid-century, his expression and design philosophy were far from the simple, his Danish and Scandinavian colleagues practiced. His expression was provocative, playful, futuristic but also full of personality. His passion for exploring the possibilities of unconventional material types and flashy colors was an essential part of the DNA of many of his sculptural works.
