Kunsthøjskolen, Holbæk

“Art ought to have more focus in our society. Creating free space, art makes us more human and the world a better place to be. Welcome to Kunsthøjskolen i Holbæk”

For over 50 years, Denmark's first art high school has fostered vibrant creativity and a community based on responsibility, tolerance, and collaboration. Founded in 1962 by sculptor Ulrikka Marseen, inspired by her stay in San Cataldo, Italy, the school has been based at Holbæk Slots Ladegaard since 1963. Michael Nielen became the head of Kunsthøjskolen in 2010.

At our core are the arts—painting, drawing, photography, ceramics, music, architecture, literature, and digital media courses. Cross-disciplinary exploration is central, enabling students to develop through artistic expression. Here, figures like singer Eik Skaløe and filmmaker Martin de Thurah have thrived in a creative exchange with the contemporary art scene. To maintain a dynamic, relevant environment, we regularly invite guest lecturers to join our courses.
