How to find your next lamp for the living room

The living room is one of the rooms we spend the most time in with our loved ones, therefore the room must be inviting and well lit so that the home seem larger to the eye. AndLights stylist Johanna Wiemann from @scandinavian.interior is excellent at selecting lighting for home spaces. Johanna always chooses her lamp according to the room she decorates, and therefore the lamp always comes into its own where it provides the best lighting. In this guide, we have collaborated with Johanna to show you how to find your next lamp that fits perfectly in your living room.

TIP # 1: Choose a size that fits the room

It is important that your lamp comes into its own in the living room and therefore it is essential to look at how much space you have to decorate and how much ambient air the lamp needs. If you, like Johanna, have high ceilings, you can play more with oversized lamps.

In a small room, you can consider choosing ceiling lights instead of pendants - as ceiling lights can make the room seem larger. Rooms with low ceilings can benefit from wall lamps with a long swing arm that can act as the lamp above your coffee table. We always recommend experimenting and differentiating the heights of your lamps in the room so that the light hits differently, giving a more flattering impression of the room.

TIP # 2: Choose warm and indirect light

The living room must be a place we can relax and feel comfortable in, therefore there must be an evenly distributed light throughout the room that does not cut into the eyes. At AndLight, we do not recommend a higher colour temperature on your bulbs than 2700 Kelvin, as the light thus becomes too white and cold.
