The Semi lamp was designed in 1968 by two architect students, Claus Bonderup and Thorsten Thorup, as a creative collaboration. While the 'hygge' era (cosy era) was sweeping Denmark, Bonderup and Thorup wanted to contradict this trend and thus designed a lamp that incorporated and celebrated sharp, clean edges and geometry. The lamp took first place at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arte School of Architecture. The lamp has had great success, especially in the 1980s, when it was the best selling Danish design. The lamp has won acclaim all over the world.
